Promote yourself. Write your OWN Blog!

March 16, 2010

This is the third installment of my “Promote Yourself” series.  If you missed the other two you can find the first regarding buying your OWN business cards here and the second regarding buying your OWN domain name here.

Starting your OWN blog may be something you have been considering.  But you probably haven’t done it yet for a variety of reasons:

  • You feel you have little to say or write about
  • You feel as though you have no passion for anything which others would find interesting
  • You think nobody will read it
  • You think your grammar sucks (and your high school and college English teacher(s)/professor(s) might think your writing still sucks too)
  • You don’t have the time
  • You don’t know which tools to use

All of the above reasons might be 100% true.

But honestly it doesn’t take that much time.  Who cares if nobody reads your blog, if nothing else write for yourself.  The tools are free and very easy to use…as Seth Godin would say in his recent book, “Linchpin” stop making excuses with your “lizard brain” and just go out and do it.

FREE Tools:

Start by going to both of the above sites.  Heck start a blog on each of the sites (being the tools are free see which one you like better). Create the site and  If you followed my advice and bought your OWN domain name you can forward your blog address to your OWN domain (Google, BING and Yahoo will give your blog better search rankings from your OWN website rather than or

I have used both WordPress and Blogger over the last three years. Both are very easy to use.  Both allow you to choose from over 50 different themes to personalize your blog to fit you and your message.  Both have many different widgets to allow you to show your previous blog posts, show your recent Twitter posts, and have people connect with you in other social media arenas.

Personally I like WordPress more as it has a few more features of interest to me. But both will help you to promote yourself and your OWN ideas.

After you have written a few posts start adding your blog information to your Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin profiles and see how many people start reading it.

Stop making excuses, promote yourself!  Write your OWN Blog!
